Faculty Award Grant from ABA
Professors Margo Schlanger, Pauline Kim, and Andrew Martin were recently awarded a $12,000 research grant from the Litigation Research Fund of the Section of Ligitation of the American Bar Association to support their project "Employment Discrimination Class Action Injunctions: Terms and Trends." This is a study of negotiated and litigated injunctive remedies in employment discrimination class actions since 1996. The investigators will look at the past 10 years of large-scale employment discrimination injunctions involving different types of parties---plaintiffs are the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), private classes, and the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, and defendants are private and governmental employers---to assess differences in terms across party type and over time. This project is synergistic with the Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse (site), and the National Science Foundation-funded Equal Employment Litigation Project (eelp).
