Event co-sponsored by Northwestern University School of Law and Washington University Law
The Conducting Empirical Legal Scholarship workshop is for law school and social science faculty interested in learning about empirical research. Leading empirical scholars Lee Epstein and Andrew D. Martin will teach the workshop, which provides the formal training necessary to design, conduct, and assess empirical studies, and to use statistical software (Stata) to analyze and manage data. Participants need no background or knowledge of statistics to enroll in the workshop. Topics to be covered include research design, sampling, measurement, descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and linear regression.
Travel
The workshop will begin Monday, May 21, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the law school and is followed by a cocktail hour that evening. The workshop concludes at noon on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. We have planned this workshop in order to be very considerate of your time and schedule, and encourage you to attend all sessions. Please plan to arrive in St. Louis on Sunday, May 20, in the evening and depart after either the last session or lunch on Wednesday, May 23.
Accommodations
The host hotel for the workshop will be the Chase Park Plaza Hotel, located at 212 N. Kingshighway Blvd, just 2 miles east of the university. The nightly rate is $155, and reservations can be made by calling 877-587-2427. The Chase's accommodations consist of 1 and 2 bedroom suites and deluxe rooms. King or queen-sized beds, the comfortable sitting area and writing desk, plus digital satellite television and movies, and high-speed Internet access, all create a relaxing atmosphere perfect for the business and leisure traveler. Room service and concierge are available 24 hours a day.
Chase Park Plaza reservations must be guaranteed by April 20, 2007.
Airport Transportation to Hotel
We have arranged a discounted fare with Yellow Cab and St. Louis County Cab for transportation from Lambert International Airport to Chase Park Plaza. When arriving at the airport, you may dial 24 on the red courtesy telephone or 314-991-5300 to reach the taxi service. You must identify yourself as being with Washington University School of Law to ensure you receive this discounted fare. Due to heightened airport security, travelers must give the dispatcher flight information when calling for taxi service. The hotel is approximately 25 minutes from the airport.
A much welcomed addition to the university is Metrolink, the St. Louis metro-area's rail system. The train can be boarded at the airport and ridden to the "Central West End" station if you are traveling directly to the Chase or the "University City-Big Bend" station if you are going directly to the law school.
